Day 29: Movie Tavern

We are lucky enough in Atlanta to have not one, but two movie theaters with dining options.  Fork and Spoon is the more high-end version in Buckhead.  Movie Tavern is the more laid back and less expensive version in Tucker.  If you're not familiar with how these types of movie theaters work, you order your food from the counter like you normally would at the concessions counter.  They give you a glow-in-the-dark number to take into the theater with you and when your food is ready, they have someone bring it to you.  It's like being lazy and eating at home while watching a movie, but with better food and the theater experience.  Saturday mornings, Movie Tavern also has a pancakes and morning movie option for kids (or adults who like kids' movies...)!  We would highly recommend going!

Day 28: Braves vs. Marlins

The season was winding down, so we went to our last Braves game of the season tonight.  It's been a really bittersweet time because they didn't make it to the Playoffs and it's Bobby Cox's last few games coaching.  He is such a part of Atlanta now and it will be really hard not seeing him on the field next season.  We still had an awesome time and hope for a great season with the new coach next year!

Day 27: Dinner with Melissa and Baby Ian McFadden

One of my besties, Melissa, was in town tonight so we met up for Mexican.  I was really excited to see her and her sweet baby, Ian.  Melissa and her husband moved to Chicago awhile ago and it's always nice to get the chance to see her.  Ian is such an awesome kid and just adorable.  We enjoy getting some practice for when we have kids, too!

Day 26: Trivia at the Highlander

Tonight, like many Sunday nights, we played trivia at The Highlander.  It's sort of a dive bar pool hall, but with a really great menu.  The Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives even featured it on a episode about awesome bar food.  Our wedding dj, Bruce, runs the trivia night at The Highlander, as well as other restaurants in Atlanta so we always have a blast (even if we don't win).  Sadly, tonight, we did not...

Day 25: Adam's 30th Birthday and a Roller Derby Bout

Adam is 30!

He opened his presents first thing.  I gave him several goodies, but I think his favorite present was the horse shirt Charlie wears on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.  We love this hilarious show, so Adam was pretty excited and actually wore it for the rest of the day.

Later, we went to see our friend Libby skate with her team, The Toxic Shocks.  Roller derby is such a blast and adrenaline rush.  Come check out the ARG (Atlanta Rollergirls) next season!

Day 24: Adam's Early Birthday Dinner

There is an adorable French/Alsatian restaurant in downtown Decatur we love called Cafe Alsace.  The mother of one of my former Montessori students runs the cafe and you really must try it if you haven't already.  Sometimes I was lucky enough to score free quiche and salad greens with their homemade balsamic when I babysat for her.  Nom nom nom.  Sorry, I think I was drooling for a second...  Back to Cafe Alsace!  The decor is really cute and with the music and overall atmosphere, you might think you're bicycling with Amelie for just a moment.

Sunday brunch is absolutely delicious (if you can get in)!  But the dinner spaetzle is out of this world.  It's one of Adam's favorite dishes.  Not just from Cafe Alsace, but anywhere.  He loves the ham and onion version, while I prefer the spinach and mushroom.  It's romantic, quaint, and every bite is just a delight for the mouth.  We had a wonderful evening and left with very full bellies.

Where have we been???

Yes, it is no longer September.  It is not even 2010.  I have no idea what happened to the last few months!  Maybe turning 30 made time go by even faster...  Regardless, I'm finally finishing the last few tales of our journey to 30.  Hope you'll still enjoy!
